Make future plans – you may not be able to help them celebrate their birthday in person, but it doesn’t mean you can’t create a plan in the upcoming days or weeks. Make a list of the activities you’d like to do with them, such as meeting up for coffee or heading out for dinner. Send it to them via email and together you can look forward to it.
Whether you’re absent for work or live in a different part of the country, what matters is that you still acknowledge their birthday. Knowing that you remembered their special day gives them warm fuzzies, even if you weren't there in person.
